APP and SBS Modified Bitumen Membrane Systems
The two general types of polymer modified bitumen membrane systems are Atactic Polypropylene (APP) and styrene butadiene styrene (SBS). Each of these polymer-modified membranes differ in their chemical characteristics. Both modified bitumen membrane types are thick, heavyweight membranes that are reinforced with either polyester, fiberglass or a combination of both.
Modified bitumen membranes usually come with a factory-applied mineral, granule surface, or an approved coating that is applied after the product is installed. Modified bitumen roofing systems provide the redundancy of built-up roofing with their added strength, flexibility, and UV resistance.
